STUDIO TRAINING PROGRAM

Eòlia wishes to support the growth and the training of young directors and playwrights, and this is why in 2006 we created the first Introduction to Dramaturgy and Theatre Directing courses at our Conservatory that have gone on to inspire many new students to take up these disciplines.

Each department at Eòlia encourages the creation of synergies between the theatre directing and dramaturgy students and the acting students so that these two groups can work together on projects within the Studio Training Program. Students studying dramaturgy are also invited to take part in the rehearsal process of the Fourth Year course Staging/Workshop; offering them the possibility of experiencing a professional creative process first-hand.

Thus, what Eòlia offers is something more than an introduction; we offer students the possibility to get directly involved (with the guidance of our professors) in our concept of a “creative platform.”

In addition to these two courses that are specifically for future directors and playwrights, students can supplement their training with courses within the Acting curriculum of the Studio Training program, such as:

Dramaturgy 1 (History of Theatre), Dramaturgy 2 (20th Century Theatre) or Dramaturgy 3 (Reading Beckett, Reading Shakespeare), etc.

NB: To enroll in these courses students must first meet with the head of the Dramaturgy and Theatre Directing department and attend an academic advising session.

Eòlia’s Studio Training Program offers all those who would like to continue and fine-tune their training the opportunity to do so. Like Eòlia’s BFA in Drama, these studies (for both the Acting and the Theatre Directing and Dramaturgy concentrations) run for four years, at the end of which students are awarded a final diploma from the Conservatory.

From the beginning the Studio Training Program seeks to connect students (actors and/or singers) with the professional world, taking into account each student’s level of experience at the start, and encouraging the natural and creative development of their innate abilities. At the same time these studies offer a more condensed schedule compared to the BFA in Drama curriculum. Students in the Studio Training Program can either follow the recommended tracks that groups courses by concentration, or students are free to create their own curriculum (always after prior consultation with the Eòlia)

Within the Studio Training Program students can choose to register for the Acting concentration, which also includes the sub-concentrations of Film and Television and Musical Theatre in its four-year curriculum (taking into account that the basic training offered here for everyone is that of acting for theatre.)
